Walleye action has improved with minnows on the 19- to 21-foot breaks and weed edges of Lake Minnetonka. Medicine Lake and Lake Independence are giving up walleyes in 12 to 15 feet. Muskies are chasing suckers in 12 to 15 feet, while pike are hitting spinners and suckers in 15 to 18 feet on Minnetonka. Bass are in the milfoil pockets and some nice crappies are being found on Minnetonka along with the walleyes.

Crappies and walleyes are hitting minnows in the Hudson and Bayport areas of the St. Croix River in 18 to 28 feet. Large sucker minnows are triggering muskies in six to 10 feet on the St. Croix, White Bear Lake, and Forest Lake. Anglers are finding crappies, walleyes, and silver bass scattered among the wing dams on the Mississippi River.

Bass action remains strong with large plastics or crankbaits in 12 to 15 feet on Lake Bavaria, Whaletail Lake, and Lake Auburn. Work the reef edges or weedlines adjacent to the reefs during low-light periods on Lake Waconia for muskies and walleyes. Hydes Lake is giving up a few crappies out from the access and the weedlines of Pierson Lake continue to produce northern pike.

Walleyes are hitting minnows on spinners or jigs in 15 to 25 feet at Clearwater Lake and Cedar Lake. Hit Lake Sylvia, Lake John, and Clearwater for sunfish in 10 to 14 feet and look for suspended crappies on Clearwater along the 15-foot weed edges. Teal, wood ducks, and geese continue to provide decent shooting for waterfowl hunters.

Pitching a jig and fathead minnow after dark has produced walleyes in the channel between Big Green and Little Green lakes. Trolling Rapalas on the 12- to 14-foot sand bars of South Lindstrom Lake is a safe bet for walleyes and pike, while minnows and live-bait rigs are turning walleyes off Lidberg’s Point on Green. You’ll find bass and sunfish in 12 to 14 feet on Chisago Lake and South Lindstrom.
