Southeast Pennsylvania Fishing Report – August 29th, 2013

Blue Marsh Lake (Berks County) — God bass fishing was reported on tubes and crankbaits and nice crappies were hitting minnows with the dam breast a good spot.

Stilling Basin (Berks County) — The discharge was yielding rainbow trout, carp and catfish midmonth.

Marsh Creek Lake (Chester County) — The deeper waters were yielding bass in recent weeks, with spinner baits, crankbaits, large black or purple rubber worms and jigs productive. Bluegills and crappies were biting minnows, wax worms, and meal worms. Muskies were hitting close to shore for bass anglers fishing spinnerbaits.

French Creek, Pickering Creek, East Brandywine Creek and West Valley Creeks (Chester County) — Trout were hitting on terrestrials early in the morning and late in the evening.

Schuylkill River (Chester County) — Bass fishing from Cromby Power Plant area down to the Black Rock Dam area was good on crankbaits and live bait in mid-August. Flathead catfish were hitting bluegills and crawlers, and channel catfish were taking liver and other baits. Anglers are required to avoid the Black Rock Dam fish ladder.

Octararo Reservoir (Lancaster, Chester counties) — Bass fishing slowed as of Aug. 18, with jigs and pigs, big creature baits and deep-diving crankbaits to 10 feet the tickets. White perch fishing was fantastic with everything from chunks of crawlers fished with a couple of split shots on the bottom to beetle spins, to stubby tails, to soft plastic minnow patterns productive. Walleyes were reported at the covered bridge. Channel catfish were biting green crawlers, clam snouts, and doughballs. Lehigh River (Lehigh County) — Smallmouth bass were hitting on live minnows, jigheads and small grubs and silver spinners, but sizes were running small. Night fishing for catfish was good around Allentown in mid-August.

Schuylkill River (Schuylkill County) — Smallmouth bass were hitting yellow or chartreuse jigs, crayfish imitations and live bait through mid-August. A few largemouth bass were reported on purple and dark-green color soft plastics near Auburn Dam.

Tuscarora Lake (Schuylkill County) — A few walleyes were reported on crawlers and crankbaits. Bass were hitting rubber worms, tube jigs and spinnerbaits. Yellow perch and bluegills were hitting crawlers fished near structure. 

Little Schuylkill River (Schuylkill County) — Trout were reported near the confluence of Locust Creek downstream to South Tamaqua. The smallmouth bite picked up below the Desilting Dam in South Tamaqua, where numbers of fallfish also were reported.

Schuylkill River (Montgomery, Philadelphia counties) — Good bass fishing was reported on soft plastics around the Philadelphia art museum and water works, and sunfish and bluegills were working on big flatheads all along the river.

Delaware River — Chicken livers, chunks of chicken breast, clams, shrimp and corn were taking channel catfish in recent weeks
