Upper Peninsula Fishing Report – July 19th, 2013

Pickford Area

Walleye fishing has been very good in the St. Marys River. Crawler harnesses and crankbaits are both producing in Munuscong and Raber bays. Good numbers of lakers, Atlantics, and kings have been caught in Lake Huron at DeTour in 40 to 60 feet of water.

Curtis Area

Walleye fishing has been very good on Big and South Manistique lakes. Anglers drifting and trolling crawler harnesses report the best action. Perch fishing has been pretty good on Big Manistique, but the fish are on the move. Bluegills are starting to move back into the weeds on South Manistique Lake.

Garden Area

Bass fishing has been good in Big Bay de Noc. The best action has come on crankbaits and soft plastics fished in Kate’s Bay. A few walleyes have been caught on crawler harnesses fished in the middle of the bay at The Boot. A few bluegills have been caught in the shallows on Thunder Lake and Iron Jaw Lake.

Escanaba Area

Perch fishing has been pretty good in Little Bay de Noc. Yellowbellies are hitting minnows fished in 6 to 10 feet of water off the beach at Gladstone and in 25 to 30 feet of water off Saunders Point. Walleye fishing has been slow.

Bergland Area

Walleye fishing has been fair on Lake Gogebic. Anglers trolling and drifting crawler harnesses in 22 to 25 feet of water report the best success. Pike, bass, and perch are hitting leeches and crawlers in 7 to 12 feet of water.

Keweenaw Peninsula

Walleye fishing has been decent on Gratiot Lake. Smallmouth bass are hitting on Gratiot and Lac La Belle. Crankbaits are producing the best results. Lake trout and occasionally a salmon are hitting in Lake Superior in 50 to 60 feet of water in Copper Harbor.

Ontonagon Area

A good laker bite has been reported in Lake Superior at Silver City in 150 feet of water. Spoons have produced the best results. A few salmon are still being caught, too.
