Southern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – July 19th, 2013

Lake St. Clair

Bass fishing has been red hot on Lake St. Clair. Anglers fishing between Nine Mile Road and Grosse Point with golden shiners report excellent action. Tubes and rubber worms also have produced good results. Fair numbers of perch have been caught in front of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club at first light .

Trenton Area

Walleye fishing remains pretty good in the Detroit River. The best action has been on the Canadian side of the river in front of the casino. On the American side, anglers jigging at first light at the south end of the dump are picking up a few fish.

Allegan Area

Skamania steelhead were starting to show up at the pier on Lake Michigan last week and should be trickling into the Kalamazoo River. Fishing has been fair on Lake Michigan with a few perch being caught in 19 to 35 feet of water out of Saugatuck. Bluegills and crappies are hitting in the weeds on Baseline and Eagle lakes.

South Haven

Perch fishing has been very good in Lake Michigan. Anglers fishing in 30 to 35 feet of water are catching a lot of fish south of the pier. Decent numbers of brown trout and steelhead, and a few coho salmon, have been caught in Lake Michigan in 70 to 105 feet of water. Catfish and bass are hitting in the Black River.

Coldwater Area

Fishing pressure has been light in Branch County. A few panfish have been caught along the weedlines on Gilead and Matteson lakes. Bass fishing has been fair on Corey Lake.
