Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – July 5th, 2013
Perch fishing has been pretty good in Burt Lake. Walleye action has been slow, and anglers are keeping to themselves.

East Jordan Area
Walleye fishing has been good on Lake Charlevoix. Fishing has been good all over the lake. Crawler harnesses have produced the best results during the day, and crankbaits have produced in the shallows at night. Trout fishing has been good on the Jordan River. Mayflies are hatching, and the brown trout bite is on. Bluegill fishing has been good in the shallows on the Chain of Lakes.

Trout fishing remains pretty good on the Big Manistee River. Skamania steelhead have moved into the river, but the fish are scattered and anglers are having to work a little bit to find them. Spawn and spinners have produced the best results. Bluegills are spawning on Pine, Portage, and Harper lakes.

Houghton Lake Area
Walleye fishing has been good on Houghton Lake. The best action has come to anglers drifting leeches under bobbers in 8 feet of water. Those trolling crawler harnesses also are catching a few fish. Bluegills have moved into the shallows and are fanning nests. Pike fishing has been good along the weedlines all over the lake.

Higgins Lake Area
Perch fishing is heating up on Higgins Lake. The best action has come to those fishing in 38 feet of water at the north end of the lake, and in 40 feet of water at the north end of the sunken island. A fair number of lake trout have been caught, too.

Hubbard Lake Area
Walleye fishing has been very good on Hubbard Lake. Mayflies are hatching, but the walleye bite has been good in the shallows at night and in 20 to 30 feet of water during the day. Small crankbaits, crawlers, and leeches have all caught fish. Smallmouth bass fishing has been good in 2 to 8 feet of water.
