Northeast Pennsylvania Fishing Report – May 24th, 2013

Susquehanna River, Chemung River (Bradford County)

Walleyes were hitting in the upper reaches of the rivers in early May.

Shohola Lake, Greely Lake (Carbon County)

A hot crappie bite was reported on twister tails or fatheads by early May.

Lehigh River (Carbon County)

The waters near Bowmanstown were yielding trout on stickbaits and spinners in early May.

Mauch Chunk Lake (Carbon County)

A hot crappie bite was reported, with numbers hitting minnows. Bass releases and pickerel also were active.

Beltzville Lake (Carbon County)

Hybrid striped bass and walleyes were reported in the Wild Creek and Pohopoco Creek bay areas in recent weeks.

Harveys Lake (Luzerne County)

Crappies were reported in early May.

Harris Pond (Luzerne County)

Quality bluegill catches were reported in recent weeks.

Delaware River (Pike County)

Outstanding shad action was reported with heavy runs of schooling fish spotted from Bushkill boat ramp to Milford Beach boat ramp in early May. Water was averaging 61 degrees.

Lake Wallenpaupack (Pike County)

Perch were taking live bait on the bottom. Large pickerel also were hitting live bait. Smallmouth bass were reported on live bait from shore and by boaters drifting artificials in 10 to 15 feet. Brown trout up to 7 pounds were reported by boaters trolling junior Thundersticks. Walleyes were hitting Bomber Long As close to shore. A 40-pound striper was reported.

Lackawaxen River (Pike County)

Spinners, Blue-Winged Olives, and Wooly Buggers were taking trout, including some limits, in recent weeks.

Pecks Pond (Pike County)

Bass and pickerel were hitting small crankbaits, plastic crawlers, and in-line spinners. Some nice-size perch were reported on red worms and fathead minnows.

Little Mud Pond, Lake Minisink (Pike County)

Trout were hitting fatheads, red mealworms and spinners at both fisheries in recent weeks. 

Prompton Dam (Wayne County)

A spotty bluegill bite was reported in early May. Big crappies were taking light-color jigs near structure.

Miller Pond (Wayne County)

Chain pickerel were hitting live bait in recent weeks. The occasional bass also was reported.

Susquehanna River (Wayne County)

Low water levels were reported in early May, making for spotty catches. Numbers of panfish were reported.
