Bill to expand legal use for shotgun slugs in Illinois awaits Quinn's signature
Legislation that would allow hunters in the state to use shotgun slugs for coyote hunting and other pursuits other than firearms deer seasons is awaiting Gov. Pat Quinn's signature.
House Bill 1651 makes it lawful to "take any fur-bearing mammal with a shotgun loaded with slugs." The bill sponsored ,by State Sen. Darin LaHood, R-Dunlap, passed the House earlier this week.
LaHood and a handful of co-sponsors noted that hunters already use high-powered rifle slugs for coyotes and other varmints, so use of a shotgun slug makes sense.
