Northwest Minnesota Fishing Report – May 17th, 2013


Shallow, mud-bottom bays of Lake Darling, Lobster Lake, and Oscar Lake are kicking out crappies. A few walleyes are hitting minnows and jigs in six to eight feet on Lake Victoria.

All lakes are ice-free and walleyes have started to hit golden shiners or fatheads in 15 to 20 feet at East Battle Lake, Walker Lake, and Deer Lake. Panfish action has been slow to develop, although Elbow Lake is giving up sunfish and a few crappies in five to 10 feet.

The mouths of the river inlets on Fish Hook Lake, Upper Bottle Lake, and the Crow Wing Chain of Lakes are producing a few walleyes on minnows. Anglers fishing below the dam on the Fish Hook River are catching walleyes with minnows as well.
