Central Illinois Fishing Report – April 5th, 2013

Sangchris Lake

Bass are fair on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Catfish are slow. Crappies are fair on jigs fairly shallow along rocks near dam.

Lake Bloomington

Crappies were fair around shallow brush on jigs. Bass and bluegills are slow. Catfish biting on cheese baits and nightcrawlers. Fish deep off shore.

Newton Lake

Fishing is still very good here with anglers catching bass, catfish and white bass. Bass are taking zoom worms or crankbaits. Catfish biting good on worms, large minnows or shrimp. Small spinners seem to work well with white bass. Crappies are being caught off the banks using minnows.

Clinton Lake

Bass are fair on crankbaits in coves in 5 feet of water. Catfish are fair on cut shad, crawlers and shrimp. Crappies are good on jigs and minnows. Walleyes are coming on jigs and minnows. White bass are fair on roadrunners, spinners and twisters.

Evergreen Lake

A lot of limits have started to be reported on crappies. Most bank fishermen are using minnows floated under a bobber about midway in water ranging from 10-15 feet. Boat fishermen have reported catching crappies while they drift in deeper water. Several saugeyes have been reported. Saugeyes are mostly biting on crawlers. Bass fishing has started to pick up.

Lake Springfield

White bass are biting on crazy blades in the hot ditch areas. A few being caught on the south end of the lake on rooster tails.

Lake Shelbyville

Crappies are biting in deeper water. A few white bass being picked up but not hitting good yet. Saugers are biting below the spillway.
