Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – March 29th, 2013
Ice conditions were holding on pretty well last week on Burt and Mullett lakes, but fishing pressure has been light. Coyote hunting remains good.

Ice was in good shape in Kalkaska County and there was five inches of fresh snow last week. Perch fishing has been decent on Lake Bellaire and Big Twin Lake in 20 to 30 feet of water. Coyote hunting has been good, but hunting pressure has been light.

There was still up to 18 inches of ice on lakes Cadillac and Mitchell last week, but fishing pressure has been light. A few perch have been caught on Cadillac, but high winds and drifting snow have kept anglers indoors.

Houghton Lake Area
There was up to 16 inches of ice on Houghton Lake last week. Bluegills and crappies have been caught along the weedbeds in 12 feet of water. Lots of undersized perch have been caught, too.

Higgins Lake Area
Ice was running up to 17 inches last week on Higgins Lake. Smelt fishing has been good in 30 to 40 feet of water during the day and night. Lake trout fishing has been good in 80 to 100 feet of water. Rainbows and browns are hitting wigglers in the shallows near the RAM Center.

Hubbard Lake Area
Ice was running up to 18 inches last week on Hubbard Lake, but fishing pressure has been light. A few perch have been caught. There was about 3 inches of snow on the ground. Hunting pressure has been light.
