Metro Area Fishing Report – March 1st, 2013

LAKE MINNETONKA AREA

Look to Carson’s Bay in 19 feet and Phelps Bay in 10 to 12 feet on Lake Minnetonka for sunfish and crappies. On Lake Sarah anglers are finding suspended crappies and sunfish over 19 to 27 feet of water. At Medicine Lake, you’ll find suspended crappies over the deeper holes during low-light periods.

NORTHEAST METRO

Crappies are hitting during the day in 20 to 30 feet on Bald Eagle Lake and during the evening hours on White Bear Lake in 15 feet. Sunfish action has picked up in six to eight feet on Lake Jane and Demonterville Lake or in 10 feet on Big Marine Lake. The Bayport area of the St. Croix River is giving up crappies and walleyes on glow spoons and jigs in 30 feet.

NORTHWEST METRO

Minnows are producing perch in 20 to 22 feet at Twin Lake. Look for sunfish on the south end of Medicine Lake in eight to 10 feet and you’ll find suspended crappies over 25 feet on the south end of Eagle Lake.

WEST METRO

Pelican Lake by Monticello started giving up crappies and sunfish in eight to 10 feet. On Lake Parley, crappies are being caught in 10 to 18 feet during the evening hours and the west side of Lake Waconia is giving up crappies in 10 to 15 feet. The north side of Waconia is worth hitting for sunfish in 10 to 12 feet.

ANNANDALE AREA

Sunfish and crappies are roaming together in 15 to 25 feet on area lakes. Rock Lake, Granite Lake, Lake John, Pleasant Lake, Clearwater Lake, Lake Marie, and Indian Lake are all giving up a mixed bag of panfish, with more crappies being caught during low-light periods.

CHISAGO AREA

Work the south end of Chisago Lake from the A Frame to County Road 83 for sunfish and crappies in four to six feet. Little Green Lake is producing crappies in eight to 10 feet during the evening hours. The Nelson’s Island area on North Center Lake and the north side of South Center Lake also are giving up crappies in 16 to 20 feet.
