St. Lawrence River Most anglers were targeting northern pike and perch. Ice conditions were okay, but not as good as in a typical year. Black Lake Anglers are out there, with crappie providing the most action at last check.

Not a lot of fishing activity of late with the cold weather. If you do head out, streamers and nymphs fished in the slower water are a good choice, and check regulations to make sure what waters are open to fishing.  Catskill Flies

Anglers were out on parts of some waters last month, but then a warm spell came along and made conditions generally unsafe. At press time, the hard-water crowd was awaiting colder weather and more ice.

The fifth annual Great Sacandaga Walleye Challenge ice fishing derby attracted scores of anglers last month, and a 3.5-pounder won the event at Great Sacandaga Lake.
