Nothing to report. A few anglers were getting out, but most are awaiting hard water.

Not much happening now that deer season has ended and ice fishing has yet to become an option.

The blackfish action remained excellent right up to the end of the 2012 season on Dec. 14, with blackfish between 6 and 8 pounds pool winners on open and charter boats, and common on private boats. The best fishing was on the offshore wrecks and ledges, such as 17 fathoms and Cholera Banks. On the

Right now there is a little trapping, small-game and predator hunting going on in the region, but most sportsmen and women waiting for first ice to hit the hard water. At last check, that hasn’t happened anywhere – not even on Lake Colby in Saranac Lake.

Canandaigua Lake Nothing to report right now. Cayuga Lake Yellow perch were being taken in the north end on fathead minnows. Landlocked salmon were being caught on the lake from the surface down to about 80 feet on spoons and stick baits. Seneca Lake Fishing off the pier has been very good during the day

Lake Ontario Nothing to report now. Oswego River Fishing has slowed but there are steelhead and brown trout being caught in the river. Drift boat anglers have been doing better with the higher water. Good baits continued to be egg sacs, beads and egg imitating flies. Salmon River Fish were still being caught throughout river

Lake Ontario and tributaries In the streams, Eighteen Mile Creek at Burt Dam is still your best bet when it comes to tributary action. Water was still low and clear at last check, but that can change in a hurry. Use single-egg presentations with small hooks and light line to improve your chances for success.
