Southern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – December 21st, 2012
Lake St. Clair
There was no ice last week on Lake St. Clair. Perch fishing has been pretty good in the canals and marinas. Walleye fishing has been good in the Detroit River when the water isn’t muddy. Good action has been reported by anglers fishing from the sturgeon hole down to the Trenton Channel. A few perch have been caught off Boblo Island.

Skim ice was forming on some of the smaller lakes in Oakland County last week, but none was safe for ice fishing, yet. The muzzleloader deer season has been good, and the late doe season also should be good. There was no snow on the ground.

There was no safe ice last week in Livingston County, and ice anglers were watching the weather reports. Late deer-hunting seasons have been decent, but the whitetails are coming out late in the afternoons. There was no snow on the ground. Predator hunting has been fair, but should improve with a little snow.

There was no safe ice last week in Cass County. Late deer seasons have been pretty good in areas that weren’t hit hard by EHD. There was no snow on the ground, and predator hunting has been slow to get started. Most anglers are hoping for some ice.

There was no ice or snow in Allegan County last week. A few steelhead are being caught below the Allegan Dam on the Kalamazoo River on wax worms and bobbers. Fair number of bluegills have been caught on Eagle Lake, suspended over water up to 40 feet deep. Fishing pressure has been light. The late deer seasons have been pretty good.
