'DNR Sustainability Bill' signed into law

Springfield — Gov. Pat Quinn today signed into law Senate Bill 1566, which ill result in Illinois vehicle owners paying $2 more for license plates next year. The windfall will help DNR repair and maintain state parks.

The new law goes into effect Jan 1.

A spokesman for Secretary of State Jesse White – who opposed the increase – says the fee will apply to until renewals due in March at the earliest.

The law also includes changes to fishing license fees that will put more money into DNR coffers.
