Short days, long nights offer fishing opportunities

Cory YarmuthIs December really upon us?  It seems just like yesterday that the leaves still had green in them and the days were long and the nights were short.  This total transformation just seems to have taken me by surprise.

I suppose this means that it is time to switch up gears and start preparing for all the great winter fishing opportunities that are just around the corner.  From sitting on a frozen lake to busting ice on the big water to launch the boat, the opportunities to fish in the winter are endless.

The harbors are loaded with big trout that are willing to take a multitude of offerings and the inland lakes will soon have a good ice covering to allow us to access those areas we might not have been able to access in the past.  It's time to dust off the ice gear and the steelhead rods and get the boat "winter ready" for any adventure that might pop up at a moments notice.

Soon Christmas will be upon us and by then the winter bite will be in full swing.  Just because the cold is here doesn't mean it is time to hang it up for the year.  It just means that tactics need to be changed and new waters explored.

Get up off that couch and get ready for some great fishing in the dead of winter!
