Deer hunting reports have been good, although the number of antlerless deer shot was down. There were quite a few small- to medium-sized bucks taken and hunters have seen good numbers of deer throughout the area. Crappies and perch continue to be taken on minnows at Budd Lake and Lake Sissiton in eight to 10 feet. Anglers fishing from shore with minnows at North Silver Lake and Iowa Lake are catching perch, while a jig and minnow is producing walleyes in four feet at Tuttle Lake.

The deer season started on a slow note, especially for bucks, with many hunters stating that the rut is just getting started. There was a fair number of antlerless deer and small bucks seen in the area, but the overall number of deer taken appears down from last year. Waterfowl hunters have commented that there are more ducks and geese in the area this week than last. Fishing pressure has dropped although a few walleyes are being taken with minnows on Lake Hanska in six feet or on Lake Washington in 20 to 30 feet.

Deer hunting reports have been mixed with the groups hunting private land doing much better than those on public hunting areas. The general theme was that hunters expected to see more deer since all the corn is out. There are good numbers of ducks in the area, but hunting pressure has been limited. The only fishing action worth noting is taking place at the Lac qui Parle Flowage where walleyes are being caught on minnows and jigs.
Bud’s Bait (320) 839-2480
Most deer hunting reports were favorable with many groups shooting at least a few deer. Throughout the area hunters seem to be content with the number of deer they’re seeing. Duck numbers also have built up this week with the bigger bodies of water holding good numbers of divers and northern mallards.
Minnewaska Bait and Tackle (320) 239-2239
Deer hunting reports have been spotty, which means some groups shot a few deer and other groups either passed on deer or didn’t see many to shoot at – the rut does not appear to be in full swing. There hasn’t been anyone fishing over the past week.
