Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – October 26th, 2012

Cadillac Area

Fishing has been slow on lakes Cadillac and Mitchell, and fishing pressure has been light. Archery deer hunters report pretty good action. Leaves are falling and grouse and woodcock hunting should improve. Goose hunting has been very good, but duck hunting has been slow. A few woodies have been shot.

Indian River

Walleyes and perch are hitting in Burt and Mullett lakes. Steelhead have been caught in the Cheboygan and Bear rivers, with spawn producing the best results. Archery deer season has been pretty good, and bucks are rubbing. Grouse and woodcock hunting has been good, with decent flush rates being reported.

Traverse City Area

Salmon fishing has been fair on the Boardman, Betsie, and Big Manistee rivers but the fish are pretty dark. Steelhead fishing has been pretty good. Walleye fishing has been slow, but the bite should improve as the water temperature drops. Grouse and woodcock hunting has been good. Leaves are falling fast. Archery deer hunting has been fair.

Houghton Lake Area

Grouse and woodcock hunting has been good and is improving now that the leaves are falling. Archery deer hunting has been fair. Fishing pressure has been light on Houghton Lake. A few walleyes have been caught in 6 to 10 feet of water along the weedbeds.

Higgins Lake Area

Perch fishing has been fair on Higgins Lake, and fishing pressure has been light. Grouse and woodcock hunting has been good, and hunters report good flush rates. Duck and goose hunting has been fair. Archery deer hunting has been decent with good numbers of deer in the area.

Hubbard Lake Area

Perch fishing has been good on Hubbard Lake. Anglers fishing with red worms in 13 feet of water report a great bite. Walleyes are hitting in 30 feet of water at night. Grouse and woodcock hunting has been decent, and the leaves are falling. Archery deer season has been pretty good, but hunters are having a tough time getting close enough for a shot. Bear-hunting season was pretty good.
