Central Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – October 26th, 2012

Saginaw Bay Area

Perch action has been good on Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay. Anglers report good success when fishing perch rigs and minnows in 14 to 19 feet of water at the Black Hole, 20 to 22 feet of water off buoys No. 1 and No. 2, and up at AuGres in 30 to 36 feet of water. Walleye fishing has been slow. Duck hunters report good action with local ducks and geese. Archery deer hunting has been good. Bucks are on the move.

Grand Haven Area

EHD has impacted deer populations in Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties and deer hunters report limited success. Waterfowl hunting has been slow with low water throughout the area. The best action has been close to Lake Michigan. Pier anglers report catching a fair number of steelhead and salmon in Lake Michigan. Whitefish are expected to start showing up any day now. Bluegills are hitting on Sterns Bayou.

Caseville Area

Perch fishing has been good in the Pigeon River. Lakers and salmon are moving into the river. Perch are hitting in Lake Huron off Oak Point when anglers aren’t getting blown off the lake. Duck and goose hunting has been very good. Archery deer hunting has been good, and several nice bucks have been taken. Bucks are rubbing and starting to chase does.

Port Huron

Walleyes, steelhead, and salmon are being caught in the St. Clair River, and brown trout are hitting in the harbor.  Archery deer season is heating up and bucks are on the move. Squirrel hunting has been very good.
