Muskie anglers are throwing BullDawgs over the 10-foot weed tops on Oscar Lake and Lake Miltona and catching muskies. Walleyes are being taken with jigs and minnows in 20 to 50 feet at Miltona or in 15 to 20 feet on lakes Victoria, Darling, and Le Homme Dieu. Waterfowl hunters had a good start to the season with strong numbers of puddle ducks and geese in the area.

Work the edges of the flats with fathead minnows for perch at Otter Tail Lake. Bluegills and crappies are being caught in 10 to 17 feet at Dead Lake, Blanche Lake, and East Battle Lake. Walleyes are taking crawlers in 11 to 20 feet, jigs and minnows in six to 10 feet, or Rapalas at night in shallower water on Otter Tail, Rush Lake, Big Pine Lake, and West Battle Lake. Bass are hitting in the shallow weeds of Fiske Lake, Donald Lake, and East Battle, while spoons are turning northern pike at Otter Tail. Duck hunting was excellent for teal, wood ducks, mallards, and a few geese.

Minnows are now the primary bait option for walleyes at lakes Melissa, Island, White Earth, Big Detroit, Pelican, and Big Cormorant in 16 to 18 feet. Panfish are scattered in 12 to 16 feet and look for the crappies to be suspended at Severson Lake, Floyd Lake, and Little Detroit Lake. Big sucker minnows are turning muskies during low-light periods in 10 to 14 feet on Pelican. Hunters encountered good numbers of mallards and geese in the area on opening weekend.

Sucker minnows or crankbaits are turning northern pike at Big Mantrap Lake in 12 to 14 feet. On Fish Hook Lake, minnows are producing walleyes, northern pike, and bass in 14 to 18 feet. Crappies have started hitting in 10 to 16 feet at Sixth Crow Wing Lake and bluegills can be had throughout the Crow Wing Chain in eight to 10 feet. Archery hunters are taking a few deer, grouse-hunting reports are limited, and duck hunters shot mostly teal and wood ducks on opening weekend.
