Upper Peninsula Fishing Report – August 3rd, 2012

Pickford Area

Walleye fishing has been good in Raber Bay off Lime Island and off Round Island. Perch fishing has been fair at Cedarville in Lake Huron.

Drummond Island Area

Fishing has slowed a little around Drummond. Smallies are hitting nightcrawlers and chubs in Scotts and Maxton bays. A few walleyes have ben caught on nightcrawler harnesses  in Scotts Bay.

Curtis Area

Walleye fishing has been pretty good on Big Manistique and South Manistique lakes. Anglers are jigging with leeches and minnows. Bluegill fishing has been fantastic on South Manistique.

Garden Area

Salmon fishing has been good on Lake Michigan in 110 feet of water, 90 feet down. Orange, blue, and green have been the hot colors. Bass fishing has been good. Soft plastics and nightcrawlers are catching fish in Kate’s Bay and off Butler’s Point.

Marquette Area

Lake trout fishing has been good in Lake Superior. Anglers trolling spoons and dodgers and flies at Stannard Rock and Big Reef are catching good numbers of fish. Streams are running low and trout fishing has been fair.

Escanaba Area

Perch fishing has been good in Little Bay de Noc at the green buoy and at the narrows. Walleyes are hitting crawler harnesses and crankbaits early and late in the day. Bass fishing has been good at the narrows and in Nelson’s Bay.

Bergland Area

Limits of perch are coming on crawlers fished in 8 to 10 feet of water and in 25 to 27 feet. Some nice walleyes have been caught in these same areas.

Keweenaw Peninsula

Walleye fishing has been good on Gratiot Lake. Anglers are catching fish on crawler harnesses and bottom bouncers in 25 to 30 feet of water. Lakers are suspended in Lake Superior over 90 to 120 feet of water. A few salmon are starting to show up, too. Stream trout fishing has been fair.

Iron River Area

Walleye and perch fishing has been good. Perch fishing has been good on Chicagon in 8 to 15 feet of water. Muskie fishing is starting to heat up on Chicagon and Emily.
