Southwest Minnesota Fishing Report – August 2nd, 2012

FAIRMONT AREA

Minnows are producing perch in four feet at North Silver Lake and crappies and perch at Budd Lake in eight to 15 feet. Walleyes are hitting crankbaits or crawlers in 10 to 14 feet at South Silver Lake and Hall Lake. Bass fishing has been consistent on most lakes in shallow water with crankbaits.

MANKATO AREA

Not much has changed this week with sunfish continuing to bite at Madison Lake in seven to 10 feet and northern pike hitting spinnerbaits in eight feet on Lake Francis. Catfish remain active on the Blue Earth River and Minnesota River, while German Lake is kicking out crappies in 12 to 14 feet. Walleye action is limited to a few fish being taken on crankbaits or Rattle Traps on the weedlines of Lake Washington.

ORTONVILLE AREA

Waxworms are turning bluegills and perch in 10 to 12 feet in the Manhattan Reef, Goose Island and south-end islands areas of Big Stone Lake. The Rocky Ledge area of Big Stone also is producing bluegills and perch in 12 to 14 feet. Hit Mallard Point and Hartford Beach on Big Stone with crankbaits for walleyes in 12 feet.

STARBUCK AREA

Bass and northern pike are most active on Lake Minnewaska throughout the day in 10 to 14 feet. The Starbuck Marina area of Minnewaska is giving up sunfish in eight to 12 feet, as is the Glenwood end in 10 to 12 feet. Walleye reports remain slow throughout the area.

WILLMAR AREA

The deep weedlines of lakes Florida, Andrew, Diamond, Eagle, and Green continue to produce sunfish and crappies. Walleyes are hitting crankbaits during low-light periods in eight to 10 feet on Green, Diamond, and Eagle. Live bait also is working on Green during the day in 20 to 25 feet. Northern pike and bass are being caught on the weedlines of most lakes with spinnerbaits.
