MAYFLOWER – The pistol range at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Dr. James E. Moore Jr. Camp Robinson Firing Range at Mayflower will re-open July 14. The pistol range had been closed since two ricochets were reported to the range staff in late March.
A range specialist from the National Rifle Association evaluated the range and the ricochet incidents. The AGFC used his recommendations to initiate major modifications including the installation of ground baffles, wooden covers for target posts and additional dirt on the backstop.
The facility’s 200-yard rifle range, skeet and trap ranges all remained opened during the temporary closure. The range is available for a small fee, which helps cover operating costs: rifle is $3 per person, skeet and trap is $4 per round of 25. Eye and ear protection are provided and spotting scopes are available for a $2 rental fee.
The range also was closed for a period early last year after a tornado destroyed most of the facility. To find out more about the range and to see a calendar, go to: http://www.agfc.com/aboutagfc/Pages/AboutFacilitiesRobinsonFR.aspx.
