Northeast Minnesota Fishing Report – June 22nd, 2012


Leeches or chubs are triggering walleyes in 25 feet at Island Lake, in 10 feet at Boulder Lake, and in six feet at Rice Lake. Hit the lily pads for bluegills and the weedlines for northern pike on Fish Lake. Buzzbaits are producing smallmouth bass on the shoreline of Island and sucker minnows started producing muskies on the St. Louis River. Stickbaits are turning lake trout and coho salmon about 60 feet down over 170 feet on Lake Superior.

Leeches or crawlers on floating jigs are turning walleyes on the nine- to 15-foot reef areas of lakes Shagawa, Birch, Burntside, the White Iron Chain, and east side of Basswood Lake. Smallmouth bass remain active in shallow water on area lakes and minnows are producing northern pike on Shagawa in 12 to 15 feet.

Walleyes and sauger are hitting crawlers and leeches in 12 to 25 feet. Look shallow during low-light and deeper during midday periods. There have been some fish taken with jigs and minnows on the reef edges as well. Crankbaits are producing northern pike and smallmouth bass along the wind-swept shorelines.
