Arkansas kids invited to 10th annual Ward Fishing Derby, Saturday June 2, 2012

Kid's 15 or under, you're invited to the 10th annual Ward Fishing Derby, Saturday June 2, 2012, in the City of Ward, Lonoke County, Arkansas at Busby Lake.

This event is a fishing derby for kids age 1-15 years old. Show up early and get your spot at the lake.The earlier you show up the better the chance of a decent parking spot. The event is completely free to enter. There are already 67 kids registered for the event. We expected to have over 100 little anglers. If you would like to pre-register for the event contact Mrs. Jamee Moore at 501-843-2271. Each kid that is registered will get a door prize just for showing up. The event is divided into three age groups: ages 1-5, 6-10, and 11-15. Each age-groups winner with the largest fish and the largest stringer will win a prize. They will also have their photo taken with Mayor Brooke. A new award will be offered for this year’s event as well; Strike King’s First Fish Award will be presented to the first contestant weighing in a fish in each group. An overall event winner will get a plaque presented by Mayor Brooke and door prize drawings.
The lake will be stocked the week leading up to the event so there will be plenty of fish ready to bite. This is a great event to let your kids get out and have a little friendly competition and fun time in the sun. Remember to bring sunscreen to keep everyone from a sunburn, a cooler full of cold drinks, and snacks to stay full.

  • 8:00am – 9:00am Registration
  • 8:30am – 9:30am Casting Contest
  • 9:00am – 11:00am Fishing Time
  • 10:30am – 11:15am Weigh In & Awards Presentation
