Trout Will be Stocked Near Pierre, South Dakota
PIERRE, S.D. – Rainbow trout will be stocked in Oahe Marina near Fort Pierre, starting in early April and continuing during the month.
Robert Hanten of Fort Pierre, South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks fisheries biologist, said the department will stock catchable-sized rainbow trout in the marina basin immediately downstream from Oahe Dam.
“Weather permitting, the first stocking of trout will occur on Wednesday, April 4, with additional stockings planned throughout April,” Hanten said. “In the past, trout have been released in both Oahe and Downs Marina, with the trout stocked in Downs being caught near the LaFramboise causeway fishing piers. Due to last year’s flood, the causeway fishing piers are out of commission, therefore all of the trout will be stocked in Oahe Marina this spring.”
Oahe Marina is fully operational and accessible to anyone who likes to fish, Hanten said.
“The stocked trout range in size from 9 to 11 inches and can provide many hours of fishing enjoyment,” he said. “the fishing should be great, so get out and enjoy it with your family or friends.”
Oahe Marina is located just downstream from Oahe Dam, off state Highway 1806, north of Fort Pierre.
