Illinois' state walleye record broken for second time this year

Young Nick Tassoni barely had time to enjoy the celebrity of holding a state record.

DNR confirmed Thursday that the 15-year-old Rockford angler's two-month old Walleye record was smashed by a Wisconsin man fishing on the Pecatonica River in Winnebago County. James Zimmerman, 52, of Beloit, Wisc., caught a 15.08-pound walleye on Sunday, topping the 14.2-pound fish caught by Tassoni on Jan.7. Tassoni's fish, also caught on the Pecatonica, had broken a record that had held since 1961.

Zimmerman's fish, caught on a 1/8-ounce jig, was measured at 31 and 1/2 inches with a girth of 20 and 3/8 inches.
