CT: No Child Left Inside Annual Winter Festival

We will be hosting our annual No Child Left Inside Winter
Festival on Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at
Black Rock State Park in Watertown.

While we almost had too much winter last year, things are looking
great for this year’s festival. Activities to include: fish
stocking, ice fishing, fish fry, snowshoeing, wildlife tracking,
visits with Resources in Search and Rescue and CT Horse Council –
Volunteer Horse Patrol , ice safety rescue demonstrations by the
Watertown Fire Department and bonfire complete with story telling
and marshmallow roasting!

This event is FREE so come out for a fun filled family day!

Family Ice Fishing Derby

Get geared up for the No Child Left Inside® Winter Festival by
attending the Family Ice Fishing Derby the weekend before!

On Saturday, January 28, 2012, the DEEP Fisheries Division will
be hosting their annual family ice fishing derby at Patriot’s Park
Community Center on Lake Wangumbaug in Coventry from 12:00 – 3:00

This free family fishing fun event will provide hands-on
introduction to the sport of ice fishing. Ice fishing equipment and
bait will be available for use. Fishing licenses are required for
those 16 years and older, including parents.

Featured Activity – Ski Touring

One of the oldest winter activities known to man, ski touring has
enjoyed an enthusiastic revival and new growth in Connecticut
during the past few years.

Look for the DEEP’s brown and white signs showing a stylized
skier, direction arrow, and a degree of difficulty symbol. Three
degrees of difficulty are used: a green circle for “easy,” a blue
