Breaking News for

Sportsmen Since 1967

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it!

Okay, so maybe the title is cheesy, and even a bit melodramatic
for my personality, and that of most hunters I know, but I’m dying
here! As I write this blog, there are 45 — yes count ‘em — 45
more days until opening day of Illinois’ archery season.

This is a really hard time of year for us diehard bow hunters.
We’re checking the trail cams we already have up, and maybe even
putting up a few new ones. It seems like we always pick the hottest
days in August to hang stands, and make sure they’re safe and
squeak-free. Then, we hope that we’ve made the right decisions, and
pray that everything comes together, making all our hard work pay
off.

But, the most difficult thing to deal with right now is that bow
hunting season is so close, yet seems so far. It’s kind of like
being a kid on Christmas Eve. You know the man in the red suit will
be arriving in less than 24 hours, but it feels like 24 days
instead.

Sure, we have squirrel season to help the days pass by a bit
quicker. Heck, some of us might be trying to make squirrel nuggets
with as many of the little critters as we can. After all, come bow
season, they become an arch nemesis. I’m just being honest!

For now, though, we’ll just keep doing what we do best most of the
year: Dreaming of that antlered giant making the single mistake
that puts him in our roundhouse!
