SD: Boaters on Lake Oahe Should Be Cautious

PIERRE, S.D. – With historic water levels on Lake Oahe boaters
should be aware of dangers in the water, especially near the dam
and the West Shore boat ramp area.

“There is a large amount of water being pumped out of Oahe,”
said GFP Assistant Director Emmett Keyser. “The intake tubes
leading to the Stillin Basin below the dam are approximately 300
yards east of the West shore boat ramp are creating a whirlpool
like effect. Boaters should avoid that area as much as
possible.”

Boaters should also be aware of floating debris and submerged
trees, Keyser said.
