Maryland drowning victim recovered at Rocks State Park

The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) recovered the body
of a missing 19 year-old swimmer yesterday in Deer Creek.

On May 27, 2011 at 4:15 p.m., NRP responded to the Deer Creek
area of Rocks State Park, near the intersection of Route 24 and
Rocks Chrome Hill Road for a report of a missing swimmer.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 19-year-old male was
with five friends and swimming in the Deer Creek area of Rocks
State Park when he encountered unknown difficulties. The man’s
friends searched for him and alerted a Maryland Park Service (MPS)
Ranger who was in the area.

After a two-hour search and recovery effort by NRP, MPS and the
Darlington, Fallston, and Bel Air fire companies, the victim was
located in Deer Creek. The victim’s name is not being released
until the next of kin is notified.

The man’s body was transported to the office of the Chief
Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. NRP is investigating
the incident.
