Iowa reminds anglers that bridges are off limits

Iowa state transportation officials are reminding anglers that
fishing off bridges is not allowed in Iowa. That applies to public
street, highway and railroad bridges.

Officials say it’s not only illegal, but unsafe.

Earlier this month, a woman fishing off a railroad bridge was
hit by a train near Lansing in northeast Iowa. The woman survived.
Authorities say she was trying to retrieve her gear as the train
came through.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is urging anglers and
others to use public access points to reach Iowa’s rivers and
lakes, or get permission from the local landowner. Officials also
say vehicles should not be parked on the shoulder of a highway,
which is limited to emergency use only.
