2011 Nebraska State Parks Summer Schedule

Nebraskans have more than 80 state park areas to enjoy this
summer. These parks offer a variety of activities for all ages.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offers the following
summer park schedule to help Nebraskans plan vacations or trips to
parks. A park entry permit is required for all vehicles entering
these park areas:

Alexandria Lakes State Recreation Area (SRA) – Alexandria, (402)
729-5777. Youth Fishing Clinic, May 21.

Arbor Lodge State Historical Park (SHP) – Nebraska City, (402)
873-7222. Mansion is open through Oct. 16, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Arthur Bowring Sandhills Ranch SHP – Merriman, (308) 684-3428.
Ranch home tours and visitor center open May 28-Sept. 5,
Monday-Saturday (closed Wednesdays), 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays,
noon-4 p.m.; Sod House Sunday, June 26.

Ashfall Fossil Beds SHP – Royal, (402) 893-2000. Open daily
Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Call for additional
open days.

Ash Hollow SHP – Lewellen, (308) 778-5651. Visitor center open
May 28-Sept. 5, weekends, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. or Monday-Friday by
appointment; park grounds open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., April 1-Oct. 31; Ash
Hollow Historical Pageant, June 17-18.

Buffalo Bill Ranch SHP – North Platte, (308) 535-8035. House and
barn open on weekdays through May 27, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4
p.m.; open seven days a week, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., May 28-Sept. 5.

Calamus SRA – Burwell, (308) 346-5666. Walleye Association
Fishing Tournament, June 8-19; Central Nebraska Catfish Tournament,
July 23-24; Midwest Catfish Classic at Calamus, Aug. 27-28.

Chadron State Park (SP) – Chadron, (308) 432-6167. Housekeeping
cabins available through mid-November, plus a group camp/conference
facility. Modern campground with showers available. Chadron
Adventure Race, May 21; Free Fishing Day, May 21; Chadron SP
Anniversary Day, June 18; Fur Trade Days, July 8-10.

Champion Mill SHP – Enders, (308) 882-5860. Exhibits open 8
a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m., on weekends only, May 28-Sept. 5.

Eugene T. Mahoney SP – Ashland, (402) 944-2523. Year-round
lodging. Restaurant open year-round. Father’s Day Buffet, June 19;
star gazing June 10, July 22, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16.

Fort Atkinson SHP – Fort Calhoun, (402) 468-5611. Visitor center
and buildings open weekends only, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., April 30-May 22
and Sept. 10-Oct. 13; open daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., May 28-Sept. 5.
Living history demonstrations, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., April 30-May 1, June
4-5, July 2-3 and Aug. 6-7.

Fort Hartsuff SHP – Burwell, (308) 346-4715. Buildings and
grounds open, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 1-Sept.
30; buildings open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and grounds
open 8 a.m.-sunset, Oct. 1-March 31. Gift shop open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.,
on weekends, or by appointment, May 28-Sept. 5.

Fort Kearny SHP and SRA – Kearney, (308) 865-5305. Open daily, 9
a.m.-5 p.m., May 21-Sept. 12; 1860s soldier and civilian encampment
and living history demonstrations, May 28-30, July 2-4 and Sept.
3-5.

Fort Robinson SP – Crawford, (308) 665-2900. Museums, restored
buildings, modern and primitive camping, cabin and lodging
facilities available from mid-April to mid-November. Restaurant
open daily, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Park
opens at 4 p.m., May 27; official opening of all park activities,
May 28; Intertribal Gathering, June 10-12; Art Show, July 2-4;
Fourth of July Celebration, July 4.

Fremont Lakes SRA – Fremont, (402) 727-3290. Youth Fishing Day,
9 a.m.-noon, May 21.

Indian Cave SP – Shubert, (402) 883-2575. Modern and primitive
camping available. Family crafts and trail rides available,
May-October; living history demonstrations; Brownville Freedom Day
Celebration with Fireworks, July 4; Buffalo Cookout and Fireworks,
Sept. 3.

Lake McConaughy SRA – Ogallala, (308) 284-8800. Big Mac Shut Up
and Fish Walleye Tournament, May 21-22; Go Fish Kids Fishing Clinic
and Water Expo, June 4; Father and Son Fishing Tournament, June 19;
Sailboat Regatta, July 9-10; Kites and Castles, July 30; Sailboat
Regatta, Sept. 2-4.

Lewis and Clark SRA – Crofton, (402) 388-4169. Cabins are
available year-round. National Park Service programs, dates
TBA.

Merritt Reservoir SRA – Valentine, (402) 376-3320. Nebraska
Walleye Trail, June 25-26; Nebraska Walleye Association Tournament,
October date TBA; Nebraska Star Party, July 31-Aug. 5.

Niobrara SP – Niobrara, (402) 857-3373. Modern and primitive
camping available. Modern housekeeping cabins overlooking the river
with year-round availability. Horse trail rides, May 28-Sept. 4;
swimming pool open daily, 1-6 p.m., mid-June-mid-August and on
weekends only mid-August-Sept. 5; buffalo cookout and
entertainment, May 28, July 2 and Sept. 3; Nebraska Humanities
programs, May 28 and Sept. 3; National Park Service programs, May
27, July 1 and Sept. 2; Becoming an Outdoors-Woman kayak workshop,
July 22-23.

Pawnee SRA – Emerald, (402) 796-2362. Carp-O-Rama, 8 a.m.-1
p.m., June 25.

Platte River SP – Louisville, (402) 234-2217. Modern
housekeeping cabins available year-round. Tepees and camper cabins
also available. Fishing clinic, 9-11:30 a.m., May 21; horseback
trail rides, swimming pool, craft center, paddle boat rentals
available, May 28-Sept. 5; Father’s Day buffet, June 19; holiday
buffets, May 28-30, July 4 and Sept. 5.

Ponca SP – Ponca, (402) 755-2284. Modern and primitive camping
available. Housekeeping cabins available May-October. Outdoor
education programs available Memorial Day-Labor Day. Father’s Day

Rock Creek Station SHP – Fairbury, (402) 729-5777. Open daily,
