Fishing Report

This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what
anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is
compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle
shops and anglers.

Spring run-off is not yet impacting steelhead fishing in the
region. Water temperatures are beginning to warm, and are ranging
from 44 – 50 degrees. The river is still running relatively clear.
Over the weekend, steelhead fishing was still great at 8 hours per
fish caught and 10 hours per fish kept in Section 17 from the mouth
of the Lemhi River to the mouth of the Pahsimeroi River. In section
18 from the Pahsimeroi River to the mouth of the East Fork Salmon
River catch rates were 10 hours per fish caught and 16 hours per
fish kept.

Steelhead anglers have another two weeks of steelhead fishing to
enjoy thanks to an extension of the steelhead season on the Upper
Salmon River. The Fish and Game Commission extended the season
until Sunday, May 15. This extension applies to the Salmon River
from the cable car crossing approximately 150 yards downstream of
Island Park in Salmon, upstream to a posted boundary 100 yards
downstream of the Sawtooth Hatchery weir.

Don’t forget to check the tackle shop nearest to your fishing
destination for fishing information and equipment.
