WY: Deadline approaches to register for Youth Hunter Challenge

CHEYENNE – Young hunters are reminded that the deadline to sign
up for the Wyoming State National Rifle Association Youth Hunter
Education Challenge (YHEC) is a little over a month away. Actual
deadline is April 29. The challenge will take place Saturday, May
14, at the Upton Gun Club.

It is sponsored by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Hunter
Education Program, Upton Gun Club and Weston County Friends of the
NRA.

Game and Fish hunter educator coordinator Jim Dawson said the
event consists of .22 rifle, shotgun and archery shooting as well
as events involving wildlife identification and hunter safety. All
participants must have completed hunter education and present their
hunter education card at the event.

The competition is divided into junior (14 years and younger
before Aug. 1) and senior divisions (15-18 years). Participants
turning 19 during 2011 must be enrolled in high school for the
2010-11 school year to be eligible. All ammunition and targets will
be provided. Entry fee is $10.

Events begin at 7:30 a.m. on May 9 and will resume on May 10 if
needed. Youth desiring to complete the entire event on May 9 can
