Ohio Division of Watercraft sailing into social media

The Ohio Division of Watercraft is making waves on
Twitter @ohioWatercraft  – tacking toward social-media technology
such as Twitter, Facebook and You Tube to interact with Ohio water

“We are excited to provide real-time information to Ohio boaters at
their convenience,” said Pamela Dillon, chief of the Division of

Recent tweets to nearly 200 followers by the Ohio Division of
Watercraft included linking a photo from a fan of the Ohio State
Parks Facebook page, information on its booth at the upcoming
Cincinnati Travel Sports and Boat Show, informing boaters that the
U.S. Navy changed the nautical term “larboard”  to “port” in 1846,
and alerting Ohioans to applications for Division of Watercraft

On its Facebook page, with nearly 700 followers, a boater asked if
the Division of Watercraft will continue its program to loan
inflateable life vests as part of its Wear It Ohio program. The
answer: Yes, “while supplies last.”

            Other Ohio Department of Natural Resources divisions
dipping into social media are Natural Areas & Preserves, Parks
& Recreation and Wildlife. Smaller ODNR divisions will use the
ODNR’s social media pages, said Heidi Hetzel-Evans, ODNR
