Snyder names Birkholz to lead Great Lakes office

LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Republican Gov.-elect Rick Snyder has appointed outgoing state Sen. Patricia Birkholz director of the Office of the Great Lakes. Snyder said in a release that the Republican from the southwestern Michigan community of Saugatuck has been “a tireless advocate for environmental issues.” She served as chairwoman of the Senate’s environment committee.
