Madison, Wis. (AP) – Wisconsin wildlife officials say spearers
took 1,820 fish during this month’s sturgeon season on the Lake
Winnebago system.

The season closed on Feb. 18 after six days. The Department of
Natural Resources says Ron Grishaber of Appleton bagged a
212.2-pound female, an all-time state record. The agency says Matt
Judkins of Mt. Calvary killed a 116.8-pound male, the largest male
ever registered.

Overall in 2010, spearers took 270 juvenile females, 801 adult
females and 749 males. Eighty-two fish weighed 100 pounds or
more.

The DNR sold 10,366 spearing licenses for Lake Winnebago. The
agency also sold 494 out of 500 licenses for lakes Poygan,
Winneconne and Butte des Mort (beau’ – duh – more).
