Rapid City, S.D. (AP) – Officials are investigating the shooting
of a moose that wandered into the Black Hills.
Mike Kintigh with the Game, Fish and Parks Department at Rapid
City says hunters found the wounded animal near Deerfield Lake on
Friday and called authorities. It died soon after of a single
gunshot wound.
The state does not have a hunting season on moose. The elk
hunting season is under way, but Kintigh said it’s unlikely that
the moose was mistaken for an elk.
The young male moose had been spotted in recent weeks in Custer
State Park and other areas in the Black Hills.
