Bluegills are popping in the shallower water on all of the area
lakes; fish in 5 feet of water or less. Crappies also are hitting,
but they’re away from the shorelines now and are over deeper water.
Start looking for crappies in deeper water just off of the spawning
areas. If they’re not there, then start drifting over the deeper
areas of the target lake. Walleyes also are hitting, but the action
has been better on the bigger lakes. Northern pike action has been
decent. Muskie fishing has been spotty. Bass of both species are
really clobbering baits, mostly in 8 feet of water and shallower.
Trout streams have been providing plenty of action for the anglers
who are still wearing waders.
