3 management areas closed due to flooding; spring turkey hunts cancelled

Flooding has closed three wildlife management areas (WMAs) and
cancelled the spring turkey hunts previously scheduled there for
Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Division of Forestry closed the Twin Rivers WMA in Madison,
Hamilton and Suwannee counties. The Suwannee River Water Management
District closed the Holton Creek WMA in Hamilton County. The
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) closed the
Suwannee Ridge WMA, also in Hamilton County. All three locations
were closed due to the flooding in the area.

“We expect the areas to be closed at least through the weekend
and probably longer,” said Roland Garcia, regional director at the
FWC’s North Central Region office in Lake City. “Unfortunately,
because of the lack of access to the areas, the spring turkey
hunts, scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, have been
cancelled.”

The spring turkey hunts will not be rescheduled, according to
Garcia.
