Bedford, Va. (AP) – Bedford County authorities say a 71-year-old
hunter was killed when his shotgun went off accidentally.
Sheriff’s Maj. Ricky Gardner says Elisha Cheek Jr. was groundhog
hunting Tuesday morning when he apparently slipped while climbing a
fence. His shotgun went off and Cheek was struck in the head.
Gardner says Cheek’s wife found his body near their home.
Cheek’s body has been sent to a medical examiner’s office for an
autopsy.
