Fishing on the Chetek chain has been very good. Walleye action
slowed a little, but live bait fishermen were still getting a few
keepers. Try trolling for suspended walleyes in the main lake areas
with crankbaits. The pike have become more aggressive along the
weed edges. Use live bait rigs or artificials (spoons,
spinnerbaits, or crankbaits). Don’t forget to bring a big landing
net; there have been some big pike caught. The bass action has been
very good. Plenty of 14- to 16-inch fish are being caught on just
about anything. The bluegills and crappies are frustrating a lot of
fishermen. Lots of little ones are being caught in the shallows.
Fish the deeper water for bigger fish (bluegills in 7 to 12 feet
and close to the bottom; crappies in 10 to 16 feet and vertical jig
a minnow).
