Northeastern Lower

Houghton Lake Area

Windy weather has kept many anglers from fishing on Houghton
Lake. For those who are getting out, walleye fishing has been good
along the first weedline Crawlers and cranks are both working. Pike
fishing also has been good, but the panfish action has slowed with
cooler temperatures moving in. Turkey hunting has been fair. A few
black morels are being found.

Higgins Lake Area

Cold, windy weather has kept most anglers grounded on Higgins
Lake. When anglers can get out, lake trout fishing has been pretty
good when trolling with cowbells and crankbaits. Perch fishing
should pick up any day now with lots of fish holding in 20 to 40
feet of water. Turkey hunting has been fair with light hunter
pressure.

Hubbard Lake Area

Bass fishing has been great on Hubbard Lake and anglers are
enjoying the early catch-and-immediate-release season. Walleye and
pike fishing has been fair. Turkey hunting has been slow.

Oscoda Area

Walleye fishing has been very good at the dam on Van Etten Lake.
Anglers fishing at night are using crankbaits with good success.
Pier anglers on Lake Huron also are casting cranks and crawlers and
catching walleyes. A few brookies have been caught on the Pine
River, and steelhead action remains good in the lower Au Sable
River. Turkey hunting has been great. Bachelor groups are breaking
up and toms are chasing hens.

Glennie Area

Fair numbers of walleye and pike are hitting on Five Channels
Dam Pond. Stream fishing has been pretty good too, now that the
water is settling down. Turkey hunting has been slow. Gobblers are
not responding to calls.

Hillman Area

Crappies are hitting minnows and waxies on Grass Lake and
Fletcher Floodwaters. Pike fishing also has been good on Fletcher,
but anglers report catching a lot of small ones. Perch are hitting
on the Thunder Bay River above the dam in Hillman. Turkey hunting
has been pretty good, with gobblers responding to calls.
