Rivers

Kankakee River: Pike have been lively, and smallmouth bass have
been biting near Momence on minnows and spinners.

Fox River (Batavia): Smallmouth bass and walleye are being
taken, with a few nice-sized fish reported.

Mackinaw: Smallmouth bass activity is stepping up. A few large
catfish have been reported, mostly via cut baits.

Vermilion: There has been an abundance of smallmouth bass
activity, though fish have been smaller than those caught in the
spring. Minnows have worked best.

Ohio River (Smithland Pool): Crappie action has picked up in
most of the creeks, particularly farther upstream where water is
shallower.

Illinois River (Peoria): White bass have been hitting rooster
tail jigs below the dam.

Illinois River (Starved Rock): Crappies are biting on
minnows.

Kaskaskia River: White bass are biting well on rooster tails,
mostly below the dam area. Bluegills are biting on worms.
Largemouth bass fishing has been excellent, both near Carlyle and
north of New Athens.

Mississippi River (Alton): Bluegills have been hitting on
crickets in the shallows.
