Fishermen were heading out on 6 inches of ice at Cattenbach on the Menominee River where they were catching both bluegills and northern pike. The good news for striper fisherman is the arrival of the herring. The bad news is the season comes to a close Dec. 15. The herring are only three-inches or so long, with the east end beaches benefiting the most. East End B&T reports that the beaches east of Shinnecock and out to Montauk exploded
Not much to report as anglers gear up for the ice fishing season, which may not be far off on some waters. Lake George, however, generally doesn’t offer safe conditions until sometime next month.
