St. Paul — Blanding’s turtles, one of Minnesota’s largest turtle species, are just starting to emerge from the murky depths, hungry and on the move after a winter of hibernation. If you see one, the DNR wants to hear from you.

Lisa Gelvin-Innvaer, regional nongame wildlife specialist for the DNR at New Ulm, said a special project is currently under way to investigate the Blanding’s turtle’s distribution, abundance, habitat use and conservation needs in southwestern Minnesota.
