St. Paul In the wake of a 4-year-old Park Rapids boy falling through thin ice last week, DNR safety officials are warning parents to caution their children to stay off bodies of water that now may have a thin coat of ice.

Ice fishermen are urged to do the same. The DNR recommends children not go onto any ice without parental supervision. Ice conditions vary greatly across Minnesota. The DNR urges winter recreationists to check with a local bait shop or resort before heading onto the ice. Safety information is available from the DNR at (651) 296-6157.
