“The (DNR’s) bear committee, which includes Wildlife and
Enforcement staff, is looking at some additional restrictions, for
example, the number of bear baits,” Boggess said. “But there’s not
time to go through the public process now. We’ll get a more
specific proposal and get public input this fall.”

Boggess said state officials also may consider standards and
training for state bear guides, and present that for public
comment.

The DNR also reminds hunters that the deadline to apply for the
2004 state bear season is Friday, May 7. This year, 16,450 licenses
are available in 11 permit areas in northern and central
Minnesota.
