St. Paul The warm weather and snow cover over the last few days have made ice conditions dangerous on area lakes and ponds that froze, the DNR reported late last week.

The recommended minimum ice thickness for new, clear ice is 4 inches for ice fishing, 5 inches for snowmobiles or ATVs, 8 to 12 inches for cars or small pickups, and 12 or more for medium-sized trucks.
